Because Black Honey only comes in one shade

Y’know what product I loved? Clinique‘s Black Honey. Great product — Almost Lipsticks have the sheen of a glaze but the convenience of a lipstick. The problem was that it was too warm for me, and the darn thing only comes in one shade!

The answer to this problem: Annabelle‘s Le Gloss Stick. (This one happens to be Chocoholic, a sheer brown.)

The packaging: Sleek and sturdy, though I didn’t love the finish of the tube (enlarge the photo and look at the edges — you should be able to tell that the colour’s not 100% smooth.)The formula: Stunning! I love the smooth slip this gives to lips, just soft enough but not too soft. It’s like putting on a good lip balm: soft enough to go on effortlessly, but hard enough that it holds its shape, and you can control how much you’re applying. I’m a huge stick-gloss fan, so this practically calls my name from accross the room! The wear isn’t phenomenal, but is no worse than the wear of other products like this (the aformentioned Black Honey Almost Lipstick, or Laura Mercier’s Stick Gloss.)The colour: Okay, so I kind of hated this. I am so not a brown-lip-colour girl. It’s alright if applied sheerly, sort of like a nice dark nude, but it’s horrendous if applied thickly! I’ll have to check out something with a more berry/pink-sounding name, like Berry Bite or Pink Tease. With twelve shades, I’m sure I’ll be able to find something to suit me! (Hey, Clinique! Take notes!)

So like… who even wears brown lip products anymore?! Is there something I’m missing here?? They just seem so blah to me.

    Bare lips

A thin layer. Y’know, it’s not so bad.

Other stuff: Well, for starters, it’s $7.95. Uhhh, can you say “awesome”? Even better is the $1 off coupon on their site, and/or the fact that Annabelle often goes on sale. And the scent! It’s not garish (hey, can a scent even be garish?) and lipsticky; rather, Le Gloss Sticks smell lightly of vanilla and lip product. Think MAC lippies.

On a one-to-ten scale from “not enough” to “too much”…
    …this is a twelve.

The verdict? I think this is pretty clear — love these! Great product, great price… what’s not to love?

    Another snack-y post

We’ve been eating a lot of kale chips recently — chock full of vitamins A, K, and C, it’s also a good low-fat low-cal source of iron and fiber. To make it taste a little better (and by “a little” we mean “a lot” and by “a lot better” we mean “awesome”) try this:

    1. Tear into individual leaves and cut out thick stem parts. Wash and dry.
    2. Spread out on a cookie tray — don’t layer!
    3. Spray with olive oil and apple cider vinegar, lightly, but being sure to get each leaf.
    4. Salt. We use freshly ground sea salt, but I’m sure table salt will work just as well!
    5. Bake at about 350 until leaves are dry and crisp (but not burned!) It will probably take about 10-15 minutes.
    6. Enjoy ^^

    Quick q for my followers…

I don’t have a “follow me” button/followers widget. So, um, how the heck did you do that?!

If anyone could let me know, that would be great. I really want to insert a “follow” button into a post (it’s a long story) but not actually have the follower thingy on the side, and I’m wondering if knowing how you guys managed it will help.

    Here’s to hoping it’s do-able!

    Blog miniupdate

So, in reference to the poll that’s been on the left for a while…

    • I was pretty darn excited about “read more” links, because I adore them!! However, seeing as most of you don’t, I’ll only be using them for super-photo-heavy posts that’ll eat up the main page.
    • No-right-clicking will continue unless someone can help me rig up some coding that watermarks an image only when copied. It’s no-right-clicking or watermarks, and I hate watermarked images — it just gets in the way, you know?

That’s all for now. Happy early Thanksgiving, Canucks!

    "Breakfast Apple"

I’ll take and upload a photo if I remember, but for now, I’ll just tell you about what I had for breakfast this morning. It’s a super-easy breakfast that I found in Canadian Living that is just perfect for this kind of weather! (Though I’d make sure to have some protein in your breakfast as well!) Their instructions are basically to poke a few holes in the skin of an apple, core it, fill the hole with granola, cover with a spoonful of syrup or honey, and microwave.

    Try this:

    1. Core and peel an apple
    2. Fill with granola and pecan bits
    3. Also cut some holes around the apple and insert more pecan! (Don’t just shove them in though; it’ll crack the apple. And, yes, I really adore pecans.)
    4. Cover with maple syrup (I probably used about a half tablespoon)
    5. Sprinke with cinnamon and/or nutmeg
    6. Microwave for a minute and thirty seconds, then let sit for another minute (so it’s cooked but not too hot)
    7. Enjoy!!

When you don’t want to wear a face

What is it? My lazy-day primer, Aura Science Airbrush. Discontinued, like the rest of the line, but nonetheless fabulous! It’s much thicker coming out of the tube than any other primer I’ve tried, and is translucent-verging-on-opaque rather than clear-ish. But when it comes to priming? Well. It does its job, and it does it well!It doesn’t give the same super-smooth finish as, say, Tarte Clean Slate, and it doesn’t absorb oil like Fyrinnae Velvet-Gel, but it makes skin look a little more even, and gives colours amazing “stick“. It’s what I wear when I don’t want to wear anything, but want to look a bit better!

    So! Onto the photos.

    Primed back-of-hand

Primer blended in. (Enlarge to see flawlessness!)

Blush, swatched. Perhaps a Lancome blusher, but I can’t remember which! The side with primer is obvious.

The lesson of the day? Invest in a good primer! Not this one, because you won’t be able to find it, but something. Maybe this will help!

For some strange reason I do not feel like blogging

(I know. Crazy, right?)So anyhow, here’s an old lip comb that’s a favourite in our household. It’s perfect for when I run out the door to grab coffee with friends, or when mom’s headed to a meeting! Love it. (Gilded review here)

    Benefit Gilded

Gilded layered under Victoria’s Secret lipstick in Sinful
(Try something like Clinique Black Honey.)
