    Another snack-y post

We’ve been eating a lot of kale chips recently — chock full of vitamins A, K, and C, it’s also a good low-fat low-cal source of iron and fiber. To make it taste a little better (and by “a little” we mean “a lot” and by “a lot better” we mean “awesome”) try this:

    1. Tear into individual leaves and cut out thick stem parts. Wash and dry.
    2. Spread out on a cookie tray — don’t layer!
    3. Spray with olive oil and apple cider vinegar, lightly, but being sure to get each leaf.
    4. Salt. We use freshly ground sea salt, but I’m sure table salt will work just as well!
    5. Bake at about 350 until leaves are dry and crisp (but not burned!) It will probably take about 10-15 minutes.
    6. Enjoy ^^

    Quick q for my followers…

I don’t have a “follow me” button/followers widget. So, um, how the heck did you do that?!

If anyone could let me know, that would be great. I really want to insert a “follow” button into a post (it’s a long story) but not actually have the follower thingy on the side, and I’m wondering if knowing how you guys managed it will help.

    Here’s to hoping it’s do-able!

    Blog miniupdate

So, in reference to the poll that’s been on the left for a while…

    • I was pretty darn excited about “read more” links, because I adore them!! However, seeing as most of you don’t, I’ll only be using them for super-photo-heavy posts that’ll eat up the main page.
    • No-right-clicking will continue unless someone can help me rig up some coding that watermarks an image only when copied. It’s no-right-clicking or watermarks, and I hate watermarked images — it just gets in the way, you know?

That’s all for now. Happy early Thanksgiving, Canucks!

    "Breakfast Apple"

I’ll take and upload a photo if I remember, but for now, I’ll just tell you about what I had for breakfast this morning. It’s a super-easy breakfast that I found in Canadian Living that is just perfect for this kind of weather! (Though I’d make sure to have some protein in your breakfast as well!) Their instructions are basically to poke a few holes in the skin of an apple, core it, fill the hole with granola, cover with a spoonful of syrup or honey, and microwave.

    Try this:

    1. Core and peel an apple
    2. Fill with granola and pecan bits
    3. Also cut some holes around the apple and insert more pecan! (Don’t just shove them in though; it’ll crack the apple. And, yes, I really adore pecans.)
    4. Cover with maple syrup (I probably used about a half tablespoon)
    5. Sprinke with cinnamon and/or nutmeg
    6. Microwave for a minute and thirty seconds, then let sit for another minute (so it’s cooked but not too hot)
    7. Enjoy!!

When you don’t want to wear a face

What is it? My lazy-day primer, Aura Science Airbrush. Discontinued, like the rest of the line, but nonetheless fabulous! It’s much thicker coming out of the tube than any other primer I’ve tried, and is translucent-verging-on-opaque rather than clear-ish. But when it comes to priming? Well. It does its job, and it does it well!It doesn’t give the same super-smooth finish as, say, Tarte Clean Slate, and it doesn’t absorb oil like Fyrinnae Velvet-Gel, but it makes skin look a little more even, and gives colours amazing “stick“. It’s what I wear when I don’t want to wear anything, but want to look a bit better!

    So! Onto the photos.

    Primed back-of-hand

Primer blended in. (Enlarge to see flawlessness!)

Blush, swatched. Perhaps a Lancome blusher, but I can’t remember which! The side with primer is obvious.

The lesson of the day? Invest in a good primer! Not this one, because you won’t be able to find it, but something. Maybe this will help!

For some strange reason I do not feel like blogging

(I know. Crazy, right?)So anyhow, here’s an old lip comb that’s a favourite in our household. It’s perfect for when I run out the door to grab coffee with friends, or when mom’s headed to a meeting! Love it. (Gilded review here)

    Benefit Gilded

Gilded layered under Victoria’s Secret lipstick in Sinful
(Try something like Clinique Black Honey.)

Well if you won’t work with me…

I’m pretty angry with the fact that MAC 3D glitter isn’t eye-safe. I mean… it’s so pretty. That’s just unfair! Yah, I’m still going to use it for looks (some of which are upcoming!) but I don’t think I’ll devote myself to it with quite as much vigor as I was planning to.

    In comes a saviour!

What it is: Annabelle‘s Glitterama liner, in Plutonium.

GLITTER BITS!!!: Plutonium is, like 3D Silver, a bunch of silver glitter bits that give the most gorgeous reflects. See, that’s what I really adore about silver glitter — the reflects aren’t just one colour, they’re every colour! I could sit and stare at silver glitter for hours. And I have.

    Oh hey, ingredients:

Water, Glycerine, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Triethanolamine, Phenoxyethanol, Polyethelene Terephtalate

Sticky mess of glue? Or smooth sailing?: Of course, because this is a liner rather than a glitter powder, Plutonium glitter is suspended in glitter-liner-medium, I suppose you’d call it. It’s clear and comfortable, though! If you want a glitter liner with colour, either try a different one or layer this one over another liner. (Which I do, and it works well!) It does take a little long to dry for my liking, but the staying power is incredible enough to make it worth it. Plus, that means you can take tweezers and poke at individual glitter bits to move them around if you desire!
(Yah, I’m really specific about where I like my glitter. You wanna fight about it?!)

Let’s not be blind: Unlike my beloved 3D Silver, Plutonium is eye-safe. No, it’s not because MAC has decided to dip its products into arsenic or anyting sinister like that… it’s just that Plutonium glitter bits are smaller. Which makes them less pretty, but for a “normal” non-photoshoot look, it’s a small price to pay for not scratching the hell out of your cornea.

Awkward photo of Plutonium vs 3D Silver glitter bits! Man, I wish I had a camera that could focus on stuff like this. That would be awesome. The verdict? At $7.95/each, these are definitely worth looking at the next time you’re at Shopper’s. And they go on sale super-often, so if you wait a week or two, you should be able to get yours for about $6! Love.
