    Grey-violet EOTD

Just a couple quick photos :) No full face shots, because I only did one eye — it was the end of a long day and I felt the need to play with makeup! Still trying to figure out the XSi and it is… not going as well as could be desired.

    How-to:

Prep eyes. (Fill brows, conceal any veins on your lids, apply primer.) Using a flat shader brush, lightly smoke out the outer 2/3 of your eye with a violet-grey shadow. Clean the brush thoroughly or switch brushes to apply a light shimmery violet on the inner 1/3; blend into the grey. Using a fluffy brush, work a vibrant violet into the violet-grey to emphasise the… violetness.

Tightly line lower lashline with a dark violet cream shadow or liner. To emphasise the violet here, smoke out this line using the vibrant violet on an angled or straight, flat liner brush.

Add more light, shimmery violet to the inner V to emphasise, using the flat shader brush. Crimp lashes, apply a creamy black liner to the waterlines and to the upper lashine, then finish with a light coat of mascara.

Edit: excuse my French, but faaaaaaack. I just realized that I colour-balanced with f.lux on AGAIN. Putain!

And then I added some glitter liner (which totally comes off like glue, whee!)

    Used:

    Etude House Proof 10 primer
    TheBalm TimeBalm concealer

    Alima Lilac (the grey-violet)
    MUFE 92 (the vibrant violet)
Lancome Angora (the light, shimmery violet)

Smashbox Smashing Mystic jumbo pencil (the creamy darker violet liner)
MUFE Aqua Eyes eyeliner (the creamy black liner)
    Fresh Supernova mascara
    Annabelle Plutonium Glitterama liner

Tint me, darling: the first of many Etude House reviews

What is it: Etude House‘s Dear Darling Tint, in shade 01, Berry Red.

The gist of it: Dear Darling is a liquid-gel stain (think watered-down jell-o that’s only partially set) with a light synthetic cherry scent and a doe-foot applicator. The scent fades quickly, but the stain does not! As with most Asian cosmetics, the packaging is just adorable, and the attention to detail is incredible.

The stain factor: The answer is yes — it stains, and it does it well! I find you’ll get the best results if you layer this, slicking some onto clean, dry lips with the not-so-precise doe foot applicator and blotting it into your lips with your fingertip or a q-tip. I actually love this for my cheeks, though I’m wary of doing it too often in case of a breakout! Lips or cheeks, this is an easy to use stain that lasts for a nice long time. It’s sticky (again, like jell-o) when applied but itdries like water and “disappears” to the touch.

(If you’ll be using it on your cheeks, try blotting on tiny dots then blending with a foundation brush that you don’t mind staining, or a large, flat, cheap, synthetic art brush.)

Obviously not my photo, but try something like the one on the far right, or even the second from the right.

(Can I just take two seconds to meander off onto a different topic? I just googled “flat art brush” and I was like “haha that’s not a brush, that’s an eye!” And then I realized that it wasn’t just any eye, it was my eye. That. Was. Awesome.)

The downside: As much as I’d like to say there isn’t one, there is. With lips as dry as mine, this catches on the driest parts and hangs on for an ick factor of 7 on a scale of one to ick. In addition, because it’s a liquid-gel rather than a cream or a solid, this can not be used over any lip products whatsoever — you can certainly top it with something else, but I’d recommend using this on freshly ex foliated lips.

(As for the cheeks, just go for it. Unless you’re sopping with moisturiser that’s chock-full of silicones, you’ll be fine.)

The verdict: If you have access to this and you’re interested in trying out a stain, I would give this a go! It’s not the best stain ever by any means, but I can see the colour working for many people, and it’s easy to sheer out. Not to mention, it’s only $6… which, really, is like two lattés. And this stain would totally hold on through two lattés, so I say go for it.

Ooh, one last thing! A trick to stains: if you’re having trouble blending the stain before it dries, try applying the product to a dampened brush or sponge first, then using it to apply the stain! It’ll dilute the formula, sheering out more quickly and drying out less quickly. In other words, it’ll make it easier to work with!

Tried it / Loved it / Left it

Here’s an open invitation for you guys to tell me about products you’ve been trying out recently! It can be one product that you tried, loved, and left, or three different products. Do share; I want to know! :)As for me? Tried a Sensitive Skin Dove Bar (which I’ll be reviewing soon,) loved a Fresh mascara (same for that one) and left my Neutrogena body moisturiser — Quench has (re)launched a new fragrance free line, hurrah!

    Stash pics

I don’t have much makeup. Honestly, I don’t! I just make do with what I have, which because I’m a poor starving student*, is not a lot. Compared to most makeup junkies bloggers. (Like this lovely lady, who has the kind of stash that can make a grown woman cry justify the existence of almost any other stash.)

    However.

    However.

    Hooooowever.

(How many times do you think I can say that before I get mauled by a bunch of angry readers? Though I’m intrigued, I’m not going to take my chances again, so I’ll leave it at three and just keep going.)

(Justkidding!) HOWEVER, if you’d like stash pics, please comment and let me know! If not, I won’t take them, because it’ll likely require quite a bit of time… but if you do want them, I’ll do it for you guys. I love you the way I love dark chocolate ice cream, and I haven’t taken any in a long time — even when I did post them ages ago, nothing was pulled out and/or opened.

    Mmm, dark chocolate ice cream.

*okay, so I often say this, but it’s a bit of a lie and I feel like I need to ‘fess up. As far as I know so far, Uni’s being covered by my parents in full, at least for my bachelor’s, and I haven’t any major non-makeup related expenses as I’m living under their roof. But still. NO REAL JOB.
Poor and a student, yes. Starving, no. So really it’s 2/3 the truth.
66.7%. Pretty damn good odds if I may say so myself.

    VL discount

I don’t often post sales anymore, but I figured I’d share this one with you — why? Because I was quite happy with this primer, but I felt guilty recommending it at such a price :P Yes, it’s still expensive, but at least it’s a little more stomach-able now!Image linked to the primer’s product page. Why? Because I’m a lazy arse, and I know that when I read posts like this, I like to have a link to the website right in the post.

Y’know. Because otherwise I’d have to actually type a few characters into the search bar. Oh, no.

    LOL!

Here’s another question: you drop your lipstick on the carpet. It rolls, getting carpet fuzz all over it, but isn’t smooshed. What do you do?

My answer: fill a small cup with isopropyl, then soak the crap outta that lipstick! The outside should dissolve in about twenty seconds, leaving the icky fuzz at the bottom of your cup ‘o alcohol and leaving you with a clean lippie. The day is saved!

Oh, how I wish I could go :(

Unfortunately, I’ll be a) in classes, and b) not in New York. Or anywhere in the near vicinity of the area. Not even a little bit.

(Info intentionally blurred; your eyes are fine stop freaking out!)
(Seriously, stop freaking out. It’s okay. Just breathe.)
    (BREATHE GODDDAMNIT!)
(I’m just kidding. But I promise, I’ll stop poking at you now. *pokepoke*)

Unfortunately, what the invite left out are the details that I’m interested in — what will the new fragrance be, and what will it smell like? I’m thinking a polite floral with a leather base, because companies generally aren’t fantastically creative. I’ve never sniffed a Ferragamo before (though they have eight womens’ out already,) so if you can share some insight on this one, please share now!
