Worth the Hype? Perfect 10

Clairol‘s Perfect 10 is advertised as the Holy Grail hair dye – but then again, aren’t they all? I couldn’t test this one personally, as I don’t dye my hair, but my mom does. The obvious solution was, therefore, to coerce her into trying this product (okay, so it wasn’t coercion, as it was a simple “hey mom, you have to try this, kay?”. It was more of a team effort.)

Anyhow, we tried it (in the colour shown). We did not conquer. Why not? It mad the biggest mess you’ve ever seen. It’s so runny!

Mom dyes her hair/roots to eliminate greys every month or so – we’ve gone through a lot of lines, including L’Oreal Preference (too smelly), Feria (the colour wore out too fast, though they make great red-based dyes and smell better), and root-touch-up Clairol (the root touch up kit is the same price as regular dyes, but you get a quarter of the product. However, if you buy it once and just keep your applicator brush to dye your roots again in the future, it’s a good buy).

It’s obvious what I’m going to say – even the lies we skittered away from were better than this. It was, as mentioned, the messiest of them all. We ran out of product halfway – there was less product than normal, and she has shoulder-length hair, like I do! I did, though, like the applicator idea, and it didn’t stink up the whole house. The area around mom’s head smelled foul when it was processing, but smells fine now!

The verdict: Not worth the hype! At the price ($15 in Superstore up here in Canada, with a $3 coupon, I believe), this is hardly worth it. A novel idea, yes, and quick – but hardly worth it. It makes a giant mess…it does deliver colour and soften the hair, but it also seemed to relax it a lot – a big no-no in our books, as mom loves volume in her hair!
