Marc Jacobs Beauty, Clinique All About Eyes, & Armani Kaleidoscope | New 11/08/13

Just a few (great) miscellaneous products and collections that have launched over the past few weeks! Have fun with the widget, and I hope you all have a beautiful Sunday.

    Marc Jacobs Beauty

As mentioned in last month’s Marc Jacobs Beauty preview, the new beauty line launched last Friday (August 9th). It’s been met with mixed reviews so far–the liquid liner is supposed to be amazing; the eye palettes, only mediocre–but I’m curious to see how it’ll do in the coming months.

Shop the collection here or in the widget above.

    Clinique All About Eyes

Alongside all-new eyeshadows (and aren’t they gorgeous?), Clinique has launched a concealer and an all-new eyeshadow base — and I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty curious. As someone who struggles greatly with eyeshadow fallout and creasing, a new base from any brand (much less one of my favourites) is something to get excited about.

    Here’s to hoping!

Plus, a few great freebies at Sephora

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector deal, Josie Maran, Laura Mercier

For Beauty Insiders only, of course. Use codes OPAL, ARGANLIGHT, or LMSMOOTH with any purchase over $35 CAD at the online store for a free deluxe sample of the newly-launched Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal ($50 CAD), Josie Maran Argan Oil Light ($58 CAD), or Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder ($52 CAD).

Shop here, and see the rest of the Beauty Insider GWP-type deals here! I know I don’t usually post this type of deal, but — well, these ones seemed particularly awesome (by which I mean I kind of want to try them, too.) I thought I’d give you a heads up, just in case!

Marc Jacobs Beauty: full collection details | Coming this August (exclusively at Sephora)

Marc Jacobs Beauty full collection info

Launching this August is the much-teased Marc Jacobs Beauty line, a range of 120 new products, exclusively to Sephora and select Marc Jacobs stores.

The line, which will debut in its entirety on August 9th, 2013, will include sixteen complexion and colour cosmetic products (each in a wide array of shades, of course,) alongside four luxury makeup brushes.

Inspired by “the girl” and her makeup ritual, Marc created the line around the “idea of transforming into this person you want to be,” an idea that is very much in line with the Marc Jacobs ethos.

P.S. I re-wrote all of these product descriptions for you. Hopefully they’ll be a little more helpful than your standard marketing spiel!

    The product range

Marc Jacobs Remedy Concealer Foundation Gel Perfection Powder

    Smart Complexion: Tomorrow’s technology today

    • Genius Gel Super-Charged Foundation ($58 CAD)

Anti-ageing and hydrating, this multi-tasking formula is the first-to-market foundation featuring Buoyancy Gel™ technology.  Available in 16 shades, the formula touts coconut water extracts and offers buildable (natural to full) coverage.

    • Perfection Powder Featherweight Foundation ($56 CAD)

Ultra-lightweight and instantly brightening, this powder foundation is made to diffuse flaws and remove shine for all-day wear or mid-day touchups. Available in 10 shades.

    • Remedy Concealer Pen ($47 CAD)

Available in 7 shades plus a universal brightener (Bright Idea) and a universal corrector (Stand Corrected), the Remedy Concealer Pen is designed to act as an all-in-one eraser, corrector, and brightener. One of Marc’s personal favourite products, the pen features a patented palladium tip to cool and smooth skin immediately upon application.

    • Face I Liquid Foundation Brush ($58 CAD)

    For liquid foundations.

    • Face II Sculpting Foundation Brush ($58 CAD)

    For powder foundations.

Marc Jacobs Blacquer Magic Marc'er Highliner Lash Lifter

Blacquer: Invented for blackest, shiniest black

    • Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Eyeliner ($36 CAD)

Available in just one shade (Blacquer, an intensely black black), the Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Eyeliner features a waterproof liquid liner formula & a calligraphy-shaped pen tip.

    • Lash Lifter Gel Volume Mascara ($32 CAD)

Also available in just one shade (Blacquer), the Lash Lifter Gel Volume Mascara features Elash-tic Lash™ technology which “works like spandex to make lashes lifted, curvaceous and voluminous,” without the help of a lash curler. Flake-proof, run-proof, and life-proof (yet promising to wash off with warm water), I wouldn’t be surprised if this Marc-approved mascara touted a tubing formula.

    • Highliner Gel Crayon ($30 CAD)

Available in Blacquer and 5 additional shades, the Highliner Gel Crayon is a waterproof gel eyeliner in pencil form for rich pigment + smooth application.

Marc Jacobs Eye-Con Palettes, Lovemarc Lip Ge

Hi-Per Color: Unexpected colour range envisioned by Marc

    • Style Eye-Con No. 3 and No. 7 Plush Shadow Eyeshadow Palettes ($51 and $71 CAD, respectively)

Featuring richly pigmented eyeshadows in three finishes (metallics, mattes, and sheens), six three-shade and four seven-shade palettes will be available.

    • Lust for Lacquer Lip Vinyl ($34 CAD)

Available in two opacities (colour-drenched/full and light-hearted/sheer), these champagne grape-infused glosses feature a paddle applicator and will be available in 12 music-inspired shades.

    • Lovemarc Lip Gel ($36 CAD)

Highly pigmented and hydrating, the Lovemarc Lip Gels gently plump using 3-D optical volumizers and have a sleek, shiny finish. Available in 16 vivid shades, all inspired by Marc’s favourite movies.

Punk Rock + Sepia Tones | A Marc Jacobs/NARS-inspired makeup look… twelve months late

    !Sepia toned makeup, eyeshadow tutorial

Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve done a full makeup look and posted it? Months. Seasons. The last two were in April and May of last year.

Despite what the wait may have led you to believe, here’s a makeup look that I actually really loved. I shot it a year ago to the day, so I barely remember applying it, but I do remember being inordinately fond of the entire thing. It’s loosely inspired by the makeup created by François Nars for the Fall 2013 Marc Jacobs show — messy, smokey, a little punk rock.

I hope you like it as much as I do.

!Marc Jacobs, NARS Sepia toned punk rock makeup

I literally don’t remember putting this eye makeup on, but looking back, I do really love the way it turned out — smoked-out black with eye open, and a flash of a toned-down burnt orange with eyes shut. The “sepia” shade is Clinique Fuller Fudge (a Chubby Stick for Eyes), and the black is the soft charcoal-black from Clarins’ Graphites Eye Quartet.

The other three products listed at the bottom of the page are just your standard window dressing: MAC Blanc Type, still my go-to matte highlight, and Annabelle Licoriche softly through and along the upper lashline (and, okay, with the dregs then pulled through my brows — multi-tasking, man). On my lashes is Armani’s Eyes to Kill mascara, which I’m still reaching for whenever I want a super-pretty, voluminous, clump-free lash with no fuss.

!Marc Jacobs eye tutorial !Soft punk makeup look

For the base, I used theBalm timeBalm Concealer in Lighter Than Light and Marcelle Face Powder in Translucent — always, always, with these two. I really should try something new, but it’s hard, you know? Especially when you feel like the only cool-toned, too-pale, vaguely-olive person out there who can’t come within arm’s reach of anything containing ‘cones. I hear Marcelle’s Monochromatic Pressed Powder is ‘cone-free, so maybe that’ll be my next powder to try — though I did really want to try something glowy.

On the cheeks, I’m wearing MAC Harmony (much warmer than my usual fare), and on my lips is Clinique Curviest Caramel — a Chubby Stick (Intense), of course.

Get photo-ready in a flash with this Advent-inspired beauty box | Lise Watier Beauty in a Flash Kit

The product: Lise Watier Beauty in a Flash Kit

As those of you on a silicone-free skincare regimen (aka the ‘cone-free diet, as I like to refer to it in my head) will already know, finding a beauty kit that’s entirely silicone-free is a hard feat — a kit that’s largely skincare-based, even moreso.

These sets are few & far between, with the exception of a few natural beauty lines, but Lise Watier has put out a very cool Advent-calendar-inspired exception to the rule this Holiday season.

    In the kit ($42 CAD), you’ll find…

    Seven Flash Lift Radiance Vials

On the periphery of the kit are seven re-closable plastic Flash Lift Radiance vials, regularly $27.00 for 7. They’re described as an all-ages “magic potion,” designed to lift, firm, smooth the appearance of wrinkles, erase signs of fatigue, and give instant radiance to all complexions.

I’m sure I don’t have to remind you that instant fixes never produce the same results as long-term skincare (or, I guess, an actual facelift,) but who couldn’t use a bit of a pick-me-up at this time of year? Between December deadlines, holiday shopping, and a constant lack of quality sunlight (at least in Alberta), I think we’re all a little more lackluster than we’d like.

Aqua, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Silk, Rutin, Green Bean Seed Extract, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Allantoin, Niacinamide, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cetyl Hydroxyethylcellulose, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Disodium EDTA, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG-7 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Polysorbate 20, PPG-26-Buteth-26, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Benzyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum, Mica, Titanium Dioxide.

Three pairs of Bio Lift Eye Patches

To go along with the Flash Lift vials, our fairy godmothers at Lise Watier have slipped in three pairs of their Bio Lift Eye Patch (regularly $34 for 6 pairs). These ones are a little less instantaneous, needing 15 to 20 minutes overtop moisturized skin for full efficacy, but promise similar results: smoothing, softer lines, and an overall less-tired eye area.

Aqua, Glycerin, Carbomer, Sodium Polyacrylate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Witch Hazel Extract, Soy Protein, Allantoin, Tocopherol, Polysorbate 80, Tartaric Acid, Butylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Ethylparaben.

    Jason Wu

I fell a bit in love with the gorgeous “Ming dynasty and 1940’s Hollywood” green lids at this Fall’s Jason Wu show – and, okay, that’s probably 85% because I’ve been hugely into dark green recently, but still. They were pretty! It’s admittedly not a combination that sounds like it would really work, but it totally does, right?

Head makeup artist Diane Kendal created the look using MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Tealo (lid) and MAC Eye Kohl in Minted (crease) to act as a base, then added Club and Kelly Green (pigment) on top. To finish off, she used Haute and Naughty on the lashes, Blooz Eye Kohl to the lashline, and Blacktrack to finish defining the cat-eye shape of the eye makeup. (source)

    Marc Jacobs Daisy

Ahh, Daisy. Do you realize that you’ve become practically iconic, as the scent for the under-twenty-five set in the 2000’s? Are you aware that, when anyone in said age bracket walks into the fragrance section of a department store or a Sephora, they’re instantly bombarded with samples of you, and your new sister, Lola?

Well, it’s true. You’re the popular girl that everyone loves. I bet you’d even wear a purity ring, if you were human. And you’d certainly be a natural light-brunette with blonde hilights from the sun.

But here’s the catch: popular girls are rarely interesting. You’re fresh, you’re fun, and you’re green — but you’re no rule-breaker. For a beginner getting into fragrance, you have a certain appeal: in a world so full of fruity florals and squeaky-clean fresh scents, your greenery is new and enticing. But soon the greenery becomes too familiar; it becomes the beautiful city you’ve lived in for so long you can no longer see its beauty.

I managed to develop an attatchment to you, to your bright grin. But there is nothing in it for me anymore but memories and nostalgia: now the green just makes me think “allergies,” and the sunny yellow “human liquid waste” (indeed, I went there, and I did it poetically.)

Oh, and Daisy, my love? Please don’t take offense. I do think you’re a wonderfully constructed fragrance, and you make me smile. However, this is only ever shortly before you put me straight to a deep sleep.

Daisy is a perfume from 2007. She was created by Alberta Morillas for Marc Jacobs.

    Marc Jacobs Splash 2010

Each year, the Marc Jacobs fragrance division releases three new “splashes,” available just for the season. Once they’ve sold out, they’re really gone — and I, personally, think it’s a great tactic. Each scent is fresh, simple, and in splash form*; they’re like the super cute t-shirt that you know you’ll only be able to wear for a month before there’s a hole in the thin fabric but buy anyways.

This year’s releases are Apple, Pommegranite, and… Biscotti!? Needless to say, I’m intrigued and cannot wait to smell these!

*for those of you who are sane aren’t fragrance junkies: splashes are a very low concentration of parfum extract, made to be “splashed” onto the body (hence the HUGE size of the Splash fragrances; 10oz for about $75CDN.)

If you’ve been living under a rock recently, have I ever got a surprise for you: it’s the Sephora annual holiday sale again, and that sale starts with 20% off your entire order for all VIB Rouge members.

I’ve broken down my top picks into three simple categories: things I bought, things I want, and things that would make super badass Christmas gifts!

Not a VIB Rouge? Try these other weekend sales! 25% off at Jurlique until the 12th, L’Occitane pre-holiday sale, $10 off at DHC on all orders over $40!

    Sephora haul

What I picked up (and you totally should, too!)

    • B. Balenciaga ($20 USD on sale), whose fleeting celery top notes I completely fell in love with this summer (I was a good girl and only picked up the rollerball), and
    • The much-loved Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer ($38.40 USD on sale), which I’ve been mixing with my moisturizers and serums to make just the most gorgeous tinted moisturizers in the morning. My current favourite blend? Sensual Skin Enhancer in SX02 + Hylamide SubQ Serum ($38 CAD) + Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentré ($12.80 USD on sale), for a fuller finish that I can get throw on and head out the door with.
