    No post today…

…because I was up until two working on my second World Lit paper.

But I promise, I have a TON of stuff sitting on my computer, just waiting for me to write posts around the images! Over three hundred files, to be exact. So stay tuned, and you’ll be well rewarded for your patience.

Or at the very least, you’ll be rewarded. It’s up to you weather or not you like the rewards :P

    Splurge: "The Envelope"

Yesterday, I posted about Senna’s “Makeup Box” – and forgot to mention that it’s been discontinued! They’re now selling “The Envelope”, a very similar palette, for $99.
I know it sounds a little nuts, but I think that this palette would be worth it, if you could stop yourself from buying other goodies! If you love quality makeup (but don’t want to be buying it all. the. time) this could literally be your entire colour collection – six blushes, shimmering powder, a bronzing duo, and sixteen eye shades would have you set until a) it expires, or b) you hit pan on everything.

It works out to about $4/item, and no one can argue that a price like that isn’t a steal! So, as long as you can buy this and stop at that, it’s definitely worth the splurge.

But for all you cosmetic junkies out there: you keep your paws off of this! I know I wouldn’t be able to let this be my whole collection, though it really is all I “need”. Another option? Depot and split it with a friend (or four). The shadow pans will fit in MAC palettes (and therefore also in palettes by Coastal Scents, elf, etc) and the blush pans will fit in Stila eyeshadow palettes. Japonesque makes palettes that can hold both!

    Just a thought :)

    Hair show FOTD

I’ve finally gotten around to cropping and resizing these, so here you go! Unfortunately, it was grey and windy by the time I got home, so my curls were mostly out and a lot of the photos were blurred (my camera has some trouble focusing in low light conditions.) This is the look, after about six hours!

Vanilla pigment all over the lid, Fiberwing mascara, and a mix of GOSH Pretty Petrol and some Coastal Scents sample on the lower lash line. Quick and easy – I didn’t want any possibility of having to retouch during the day. (And I didn’t have to. This simple look held up great!)
Lancome Rose Fresque on the cheeks, MAC Harmony to contour. This is my favourite cheek combination right now, which is why you’re seeing it so often! Bare lips.
Because I’m freaking awesome (well, not really – it’s because of good planning) this is all I had to take with me! Small baggies of the pigments, an angled brush (all in one zippered bag, might I add) as well as some concealer, mascara, and silica powder (which I wanted my friend to try for her oily skin).

    Hello, lover!

A product (or rather, a box) that I’ve been talking about a lot recently is a Senna makeup box. It quite literally is a box, with three layers of pressed powders and space in the bottom for other items.

Layer one: small eyeshadow pansThese babies are 26mm, the same as MAC pans, and they’re all lovely! One of these days I’ll swatch them all for you, but for now, you just get photos. For the most part, they’re soft without being too crumbly, and very decently pigmented. I mean, there’s a reason why I always reach for my Senna box when doing eye looks! This layer would be great on its own, which is why I’m thinking about depotting and putting them in a palette. Neutrals like Taupe Glow are absolute stunners in day or night, Snow makes a gorgeous shimmery hilight, and Twilight paired with Fantasy gives you a gorgeous purple/blue eye with some major depth!

Layer two: large eyeshadow pansJust when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I tried these. They’re gloriously large, and insanely pigmented! I’m not kidding – I’ve never seen another shadow as pigmented as Blue Note (now one of my favourite shadows ever) or Destiny (a close runner up!)I use the left side of this palette the most often (Blue Note, Destiny, and the equally pigmented silver half of Kinetic) but the right side is gorgeous as well. They’re great non-chalky matte pastels, and are super handy when blending out edges or doing more subtle looks!

    Layer three: face products
I don’t reach for these as often, but I think more than anything else that’s purely because I’m too busy with the top two layers! The four blushes on the right are all stunningly pigmented, go on super smoothly, and have great finishes. The blot powder is the only item in this box that remains untouched, and that’s only because I’m loyal to my silica powder!
The Verdict? Duh – if you ever see this box, buy it! It’s great for anyone who wants to get into makeup, as you could literally have this as your whole eye/cheek collection. I mean, a “true” makeup artist would definitely need more, but if you’re just doing yourself, friends, and family, this could easily cover all your colour needs. Throw a few versitile lippies, a tube of primer, black liner, and a few brow products into the bottom, get them to bring their own foundation/mascara, and you’re all set!

It snowed again yesterday. Like, actually.

I haven’t done an eye look recently (well, I have, but I haven’t posted one) so that’s what you’re getting today! I know someone was really hoping for a tutorial on this one, but there isn’t one – sorry! Instead, I did a tutorial for a similar-but-more-dramatic look, using essentially the same set of colours and tools. It’ll be up… eventually. I’m not quite sure when!

Anyhow, here are some eye shots and a half-face for your enjoyment! It was super “blah” outside, and I had no motivation to wash off makeup when I was done (my least favourite part of the day) so I only did the one eye – and just the lid!

No mascara, no blush, no brow powder… nada! Excuse the face x.x

Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF 15 review, photos

Product: Bobbi Brown’s Lip Balm SPF 15.

    What they say about it:

Specially formulated with Wheat Germ and Olive Oil, this comfortable, non-greasy lip balm immediately goes to work comforting and protecting lips. Wear alone for natural look, with Lip Liner or Lip Gloss. Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF 15 comes in a sleek and portable polished silver tin.

Stuff that matters: At $17, this is damn well better be better than the average lip balm! But don’t worry – it is better than anything else I’ve tried. It’s very hydrating (my lips haven’t cracked or bled since I stareted using this), and lasts forever. I put a coat of this on in the morning around 7:30 and don’t have to put more lip balm on until around 1:00, after lunch. Now, keep in mind that I lick my lips a lot, and that I snack through the morning. Usually, by lunch, I’ve reapplied lip balm at least once, if not more than that. (Incredible, right?) And hey! SPF 15!! A few more things you should know: this balm is on the sticky side, but don’t let that deter you — because of it, this makes an amazing lip colour base! Liner, gloss, lipstick, you name it: everything layers well over this balm. Especially on my lips, colour tends to pile up around the outer edges and in fine lines if I’ve applied over normal lip balm, but there’s none of that funny business with this one.
So, who should pass on this? Anyone with normal lips, anyone for whom this would be too expensive, or anyone who doesn’t like pot packaging (I don’t, but I’ll take what I can get! My lips were honestly so dry before trying this that they bled on a regular basis.)
Who would I recommend this to? You — if you have dry lips, and you can’t find anything hydrating enough. Or if you’re a lip balm addict! Apply it religiously, which only works out to three or four times a day (angels are quietly rejoicing.) I’m actually okay with the price in the long run, because there’s about three times the amount of product in here as there is in a tube of Labello, which is about $4. And after all, it does do amazing things to the condition of your lips!

Availability: Bergdorf Goodman, BarneysBobbi Brown, Saks, Nordstrom, Macy’s… yah, it’s pretty much everywhere.

Edited to add 15/09/10: I’m still slowly working my way through this pot of lip balm, and still have not found anything even close to it in terms of quality. It’s true love! After over a year, I haven’t even hit pan, and it’s the only balm I’ll turn to when my lips are super-chapped.

Est-ce que nous sommes les amis, ou juste les camarades?

Do you ever think of a line that would be great as an indie song title?

I know I do. This is the one of the moment – but I usually come up with two or three a day (gone, of course, within an hour of thinking of them. I really should write these things down.) Of course, in typical indie-song fashion, this would be shortened to “les amis”, “les camarades”, or most likely, “EQNSLAOJLC?”

You know you want to be pretentious hipsters, too.

Edit: right now, I’m also loving “I don’t believe in love, but my neurons seem to like you well enough” and “I’ll wait ten years until you’re so damn beautiful”. “Hard caramels” is in there too.
