    Worth the Hype? Cetaphil

There are two ‘big names’ when it comes to cleansing: one is Cetaphil, known for its simple formula that’s said to be great for sensitive skin. The other is water. Really, we all use it to cleanse!

Anyhow, on a less punny note…

I’ve tried Cetaphil. I’ve also tried to like it. I’ve tried on many occasions. But y’know what? It’s just not happening! I do not like Cetaphil! (There, I said it. Are you happy now?) It made me break out, and was simply boring. I like cleansers that foam, or smell good, or make my skin squeaky-clean – this was so plain that it didn’t touch on any one of those. I didn’t look forward to using it, as I do with my usual crop of cleaners. Plus, the whole breaking out thing was a downer!!

I’m hoping for no hate mail on this one, but if you really insist, I guess I can’t stop you! :P (Oh, and I hate the packaging revamp. How totally cheap does it look now? Yah. Cheaper than Wet n’ Wild cheap. Cheaper than the 99cent store cheap. Cheeeeeeap!)

The verdict: Not worth the hype. I hate, hate, hate, this product!

Also: the Worth the Hype? series is almost over, so if there is anything you think I may have missed, please feel free to comment on this post or email me within the next few days!!

    Gossip

    Oh my god!!

I just finished watching the new Gossip Girl ep (I know, I’m a little slow on the uptake. I’ve been busy!) – so, so, so good! As in, even better than I remember from the first half of the season! I’m soooo excited for next week’s!

Worth the Hype? Olay Complete and Quench

The new up and coming in the drugstore moisturising field? Olay Quench. Countless women are turning to this line for moisture, and those that don’t find it often do in the Quench Therapy line.

What is so special about this cream? The sensitive version is unscented, and it absorbs like water. This is the only moisturiser that I can find to calm my itchy winter skin, and it continues to work wonders even in thirty-degree summers in the Canadian Prairies.

The verdict: Worth the hype, but only if you’re okay with the shimmer it leaves behind! (Not recommended for severely sun-damaged and aged skin, as you might look like a disco ball.)

But what about your face? One of the most recommended day moisturisers is Olay Complete. There are different formulations, depending on your skin type. I use the one for sensitive/dry skin, and have been using it for about a year and a half. And I must say, I’m a convert!!

I love love love this; it has SPF (though it’s only SPF15), is light and moisturises well. Also, at a fraction of high-end prices, you can afford to have one of these in your gym bag, your washroom, and even leave one at the airport when security confiscates it :P

It comes in a formulation for every skin type, as mentioned: Defence, with SPF30, Touch of Sun with sunless tanner, Combination/Oily skin, and Normal skin. Also, there’s a line for extra-dry skin, and you always have the choice of a bottle (pictured) or a tub – in a few cases, there are tubes as well, though they are harder to find.

The verdict: Worth the hype – for everyone!

Full review of these two moisturisers here.

EDIT: My Quench has been discontinued. Damn you, Olay!!

    Weekend blogging

Here’s the biggie: to blog, or not to blog?

A lot of bloggers don’t post on the weekends, and a number of others only post on the weekends! (Probably due to the fact that their lives are so hectic that they can’t sit down and write during the week!

A lot of the time, I just post something on the weekend that I wrote during the week – however, on long weekends, I’ll set a few hours aside to work up a backlog of posts, which then in turn feeds the weekend postings. I find that I’m so exhausted and fed up from the week (which, generally, was shitty) that I don’t want to do anything but sleep and eat all Saturday – and then all Sunday, I’m doing homework and running errands.

What about you? Do you blog, or do you not?

Worth the Hype? Mint Julep Mask

Queen Helene‘s Mint Julep Mask. Retails for under $5 in most American drugstores and doesn’t exist in Canada.

Amazing price, amazing results. With a weekly application taking a whole ten minutes or so, my pores look smaller and my skin looks flawless. It washes off easily at the sink or in the shower, and though it stings a bit when my skin is sensitive, it’s never caused red patches. As an overnight zit treatment, this gets rid of the worst acne in a few days (you just can’t use it during the day, seeing as it’s a green paste!) Full review here.

    The verdict: Worth the hype!

Worth the Hype? Neutrogena Triple Moisture line

Best new drugstore hair line? Disputed, but often said to be Neutrogena‘s Triple Moisture line.

Of the different items sold, the out-of-shower products get the most hype. You never really hear much about the shampoo and conditioner, though I’m confident that they are adequate, as the rest of the line does not skimp on quality!

Those that are supposed to be good are the Triple Moisture mask, hailed by bloggers and MUA reviewers. Also supposed to be great is the shine serum. Neither of which I have tried, regrettably!

However, I have tried the anti-frizz cream (useless for my flyaways and mildly fluffy hair. It poofs up when I let it air-dry, lol!) and the leave-in conditioner (a great product for moisture and softness, as well as scent, and you do get a lot of bang for your buck, as it is cheap and you really only need a pea-sized amount. However, it didn’t help with my static or frizz,so it’s not HG quality. Full review here.)

The verdict: Mixed results. Some products are worth the hype, others are not. I’m not going to dispute that this line is great, and an amazing line for drugstore prices, because in truth, it is. However, you will not be getting the same results with this line as you might with your favourite high-end line…but seriously, when it all boils down, this is a better buy. Easy on the pocket, easy on the eyes!

    Worth the Hype? NARS Orgasm

note: Being a student, I haven’t tried this – I’m on a budget, people! (Also, I have a weakness for pricier foods. Not that I eat out a lot, but I’d pick up the $10 package of genoa salami before the $5 package of turkey breast that’s five times larger.)
Despite that I haven’t tried NARS‘ Orgasm blush, I still have a few opinions on this “Holy Grail” product. I think it would be great for make-up artists, as it’s known to be great on so many different types of skin, and they have to work with a fresh new face almost every day.

However, is it worth it for Jane Doe, wandering down the street? Some say it is, but I beg to differ. Why not spend an extra twenty minutes to find the perfect shade of blush that only goes well with your skin tone?

Here’s my logic: Let’s say it’s a seven (on a scale of one to ten, ten being awesome) on everyone. So, it’s a great shade for an artist or for a rich make-up newbie, or for someone who plans on sharing it with a room-mate/sister/mom/etc. However, you could probably get a blusher that’s a ten for the same price, if not two!

The verdict: Not worth the hype for the regular consumer, at this price!

    Unquenched

So my beloved Olay Quench for sensitive skin has been discontinued. (I swear, the world is against me!)

Please, please, please: send me body lotion recommendations for dry skin. Nothing thick, oily, or super-expensive, though…I’m a student!! I would be willing to try a body oil/dry oil spray as well.
