Burt’s Bees — Replenishing my faith in lip balms!

What it is: Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil.

The basics: This balm has a very distinctive scent, but it’s one that I can’t quite put my finger on. There are a lot of potential culprits for the scent hidden in the ingredients, though, so I’m sure one of them is to be held accountable for it! Either way, I was put off by the scent at first, but I was soon hooked — it smells earthy, but at the same time almost edible. A strange combination, I know!

I really thought this was going to be more pigmented, like the gorgeous red-raspberry colour it has in the tube. Instead, it’s very sheer, and just makes my lips look cushy and well-hydrated. But hey, I’m not complaining!

The wear: While this wasn’t the most moisturising balm I’ve ever tried, it certainly wasn’t the least moisturising one, either. I did really appreciate how much moisture it imparted, and would certainly recommend it! If you have chronically dry lips, it won’t solve all your problems, but for normal to slightly dry lips, I think it’ll do the trick.

As for wear time, Burts’ Replenishing Balm is decent. It didn’t take me all the way from breakfast (7AM) to lunch (noon,) but I wasn’t reapplying every fifteen minutes! I’d say that this probably lasts about three hours on me, without eating. Better than plain ‘ol ChapStick, but not as good as a targeted dry-lip ointment may be!

The ingredients: (ahhh big words. Frightening!)

helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, cera alba (beeswax, cire d’abeille), cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, lanolin, aroma (flavor), punica granatum (pomegranate) oil, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil (huile de colza), carmine, benzyl salicylate, cinnamal, citral, eugenol, geraniol, hydroxycitronellal, limonene, linalool

The unexpected good stuff: Don’t quote me on this, because I haven’t experienced it myself, but this balm supposedly holds up fabulously in hot and cold weather. A friend of mine noticed it on my desk, instantly gasped, and started to sing its praise! There’s quite the temperature range here in Alberta (-30 to +30 degrees Celsius,) and apparently, this Burt’s balm doesn’t get too soft or too hard, even if you leave it in the car all year ’round!

The verdict? After initially not being impressed, this one really grew on me — and I now carry it around almost all the time! Definitely give it a try, I honestly can’t imagine Burt’s Replenishing Lip Balm disappoiting you.

Of a feather: Painted Love EOTD

Painted Love is one of those collections I’ve been buzzing a lot about recently, but I hadn’t had time to cut my EOTD images and share them with all of you lovelies — until now! I hadn’t done a “fun” look in ages, so it was really nice to take some time out of my day and craft this one.

    It started out innocently enough…

… but, of course, I have no self-restraint.

A ton more images and a “products used” behind the cut! (Sorry about the epic photo-suckage, it was intermittently cloudy and getting dark.)

The simpler EOTD — I did want to get “painted,” but at the same time, this stays a little safer.

The “painted” one — okay, so I really wanted to capture the brushstroke effect, and I have no self restraint, so I just flat-out went for it eventually. I do like how it turned out; I just hope you do too!

    Used:

    NYX Milk jumbo eye pencil
    TheBalm Time Balm concealer
    Imju Fiberwig mascara

GOSH Pretty Petrol Velvet Touch eyeliner
Annabelle Painted Love shadows: Nymphet, Toxic Garden, Helium, and  Pinked
Annabelle B-Ray and Vivid Violet shadows

Transitioning red lips into the spring

Speaking of red lips… I really wanted to make a wearable red out of one of my favourite red lipsticks, Annabelle‘s “Adrenaline” Rouge Velours. Something a little more sheer, a little more “fresh,” and a little more muted.

The catch: I am a lazy ass. (Yah, we don’t beat around the bush on theNotice.)

But it’s alright! Why? The answer is simple — lip products can be mixed, something that I definitely encourage. And we’re not just talking about mixing up your gloss/lipstick combinations — oh no. I’m talking about literally mushing ’em together in a little jar.

    You know… something like this:

Used: Annabelle Adrenaline (lipstick,) Annabelle Chococholic (gloss stick,) and CoverGirl Happy Hour (gloss).
(Holy man is that CoverGirl review ever old! I’m so glad we figured out the whole photo-taking thing eventually.)

Anyhow. I realize that you would probably kill me if I didn’t share some swatches, so…

    Mai hand. You like?
    A thin swatch
    A little thicker
    And thicker still!!

Now, go! play with your lip products and get your bum off that computer chair. (Which better be ergonomically correct… if it isn’t, I’m hunting you down and getting you some lumbar support!)

    Cranberries

For whatever reason, I’ve been using a lot of berries recently. So here are four that I pulled from my stash and photographed for y’all ;)

Below: with flash, then without flash. They’re in the same order as above; clockwise from top left: Senna Smolder, Marcelle Terra, Lancome Sunberry, and Senna Intrigue.

The two Senna shadows blend to make just the most gorgeous shade — I’ll have to show you ladies one of these days! It’s absolutely divine.

P.S. WAY TO RUIN THE PRODUCT PHOTOS, TERRA. But I forgive you, because you’re pretty. And sleek.
