Finally, a beauty update!

I’m getting tired of all the photos and stories – I need a break!! Here are a couple thoughts on things I (finally) had a chance to check out recently in Sephora with a friend. Whoo, mini-reviews…

Anti-redness (she has a lot of red in her face, and hates it! Short of wearing foundation, we checked out almost all the options available.)
  • Smashbox, Sephora and Make Up For Ever’s green primers (respectively here, here and here for $38, $18, and $32USD each) do. not. work. Sure, they take out a tiny bit of redness, but it’s basically negligible. Get them only if you’re going to buy a normal primer anyways!
  • Clinique’s Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base SPF15 is a waste of $17.50. Why? Where the Smashbox and MUFE lacked in pigment, Clinique overdid it. Basically, imagine red skin with a greenish cast… gross. (Here)
  • But wait! If you’re still struggling with redness, check out Clinique’s new Mineral Solutions Instant Relief powder. It’s a hell of a lot pricier than their base counterpart, but at $32.50, it’s worth it. Yellow instead of green, a thin layer buffs on invisibly to keep her looking both red-free and makeup-free! (Here)
You know I love stains
  • Stila has three stains out, as you all know by now — Pommegranite, Cherry, and Mango Crush, all at $24. These babies stay! The vivid swatches were washed-out in about three hours and gone in six. (With my compulsive hand-washing and sanitizing, that’s pretty damn impressive.) The colours were all great, but what really stood out for me was the Pommegranite. I can’t get enough of these cool, fuscia-based stains!
Guerlain — you know your friend’s a keeper when they salivate over makeup out of your price range with you!
  • The infamous kohl now comes in a gorgeous navy blue, which for some strange reason is not listed on the Sephora site. However, it’s stunning! I’m dying to try out one of these on my waterline, but the $34 price tag scares me away every time.
  • On that note, back to primers… has anyone checked out the L’or Radiance Concentrate? That’s right, the one with actual gold in it. (Friend:“You can test that out?! But it says there’s gold in it!! Whoa…”) This one stunned my socks off — in a bad way! Why? It’s $68, but I’d even be hesitant to hand over a twenty. The gold flecks were too plentiful and too aggressive for me. I like to glow. No matter what the trailer trash next door tells you, flecks of sparkles are for four-year-olds, not socialites. Glitter and glow are not synonymous. (Here)
  • Lastly, am I the only one who does not love meteorites? Mythic, that is. I have yet to check out any others (but I bet Pink Fresh and I will get along much better.)

ETA: Urban Decay’s new Pocket Rocket blinged-out-in-men glosses (here) are freaking huge. There’s less in there than there is in a NARS gloss, so why do that have to be so chunky? Hear that, UD? You get no love from me today.
