What it is: Oscar Blandi’s Dry Shampoo

Initial reaction: Dry shampoo! Dry mini shampoo! Dry mini shampoo that smells like lemons!What we ended up finding out: Well, all of the above apply, and then some. This won’t wash your hair for you, of course, but is great for second-day hair — it helps take the look of oily-pieceiness away (is that spelled correctly? My spellcheck says that it isn’t.) and covers up that “whoa I woke up way too late and didn’t wash my hair” scent. I also really liked the bottle; the fine tip makes it easy to get the powder where you want it.

HOWEVER [there is always a “however” in posts like this!] I did find that the powder forms small clumps in your hair. I don’t think this would be a problem for ladies with lighter hair (medium-light brown to white) but it does look a little dandruff-y in my dark brown hair. The scent also gets a little irritating after a while; it’s a little more lemon-cleaner than lemon-juice.

And the big surprise: After looking at the ingredients for this, a thought crossed my mind — what about a LUSH dusting powder? Well, I gave it a try, with T for Toes on one side of my scalp and the Blandi on the other. The results? Almost the exact same! I don’t think I’d necessarily use T for Toes in this way again, just because it’s kinda strange-feeling, but I would definitely buy a different LUSH powder to use as a dry shampoo in the future. It takes the oiliness away just as well, the only difference is that the huge tub makes it really hard to apply.

The verdict? I won’t return the Oscar Blandi, because I really like the bottle size and the control it gives. But once I use it up, I’ll be filling empty container with LUSH dusting powder! For the same price you get four times the product and you get to choose your scent — how great is that?! It’s a weird little trick, but it works… go on, I dare you to try it out! You won’t be sorry ;)

Note — A super-helpful SA at Sephora made a great point while I was picking up the Blandi: some people think that sprays give them more control and are easier to use, but it’s actually the other way around, as powders come out of a smaller opening! Also, the effects of a powder last longer than the effects of a sprayed-on dry shampoo. I was going to go with a spray, but after her explanation and trying this out myself, I’m really glad I didn’t!
