Marcelle BB Cream comparisons, swatches | ft. MAC, Marcelle, and 100% Pure

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

I know some of you will be ordering your Marcelle BB Cream online, so I wanted to provide some swatch comparisons for Light/Medium (my BB shade). It’s not really the sort of thing that calls for ton of text, so I’ll mainly let the photos speak for themselves – but please do feel free to ask for more info in the comments if you need it!

For the Marcelle fans out there, I swatched their BB against three of their foundations – True Radiance in True Beige and Ivory Beige (my usual shade), and their Sheer Tint Fluid Moisturizer in Luminous Beige. I’m curious to see how long the Sheer Tint will stick around for, now that they have their BB and Hydra-C Perfect Fusion Make-Up, but I suppose it just has to do with how well they all sell going forward! (No, I don’t have any inside info about it – Sheer Tint fans need not worry. It’s all just beauty blogger conjecture!)

In addition, I swatched the new Marcelle BB against 100% Pure’s Fruit Pigmented Tinted Moisturizer, in Crème – I know some of you picked it up after our review. Truth be told, I ended up getting a lot less wear out of the 100% Pure than I’d expected, more or less just because I don’t typically wear foundation. (As much as I liked it, it just never ended up integrating into my makeup routine.)

As for how the 100% Pure TM and the Marcelle BB stack up? Well, the latter’s not silicone- or scent-free, but it knocks the TM out of the park on all other counts. More portable packaging, more accessible, better finish, better texture, better price tag… the list goes on!

P.S. I’ve mentioned it before, but I have to say it again: if you’re viewing these photos in Chrome, they may not be very true to colour. I love Chrome, I do, and I use it as my main browser – but it still doesn’t colour-manage! *shakes fist at the Google gods* If you’re really concerned about colour accuracy, check these photos out in another browser, too, okay?

Without labels…

Thanks for the comparison Rae! I have a little question though: besides Ivory Beige the rest looks a bit pink… Is it me or do you have the same impression? Or maybe it's because it's not blended into the skin?

  2. Huh. That's… unexpected. It might just be your monitor? To my eye, aside from the MAC NW20, they're all more orange/yellow than pink/blue – I was actually really worried that the Marcelle BB would be too orange, when I had swatched it on my arm!

(Thankfully, it wasn't. Once it's blended in, the warmth just kinda helps make me look like I have normal-person, non-zombie undertones :p)

    Does that make sense?

They are all quite pinky – but you are quite fair!

  4. But they're not! *dispairs*

Well – okay, perhaps they are. I suppose it all just depends on what you're using for reference, y'know? In my mind, something with "strong" pink undertones is along the lines of Marcelle's Blush Beige shades – which is to say, "so pink that I wasn't even aware human beings came in that colour." (Oh, to be young and unobservant!)

Hey Rae! Sorry I guess that's what I meant! Your undertone is pretty cool no? How do these work for you?

I actually think they're all quite yellow.

Then again, if last night's colour theory class taught me anything, it's that I get confused by people's undertones. =/

  7. To my monitor (on FF) these look pretty similar. At least, way more similar than the various foundations i've been matched with. Haha. I should do a post on them as a joke one day!

  8. Lol! Oh, I feel your pain. (Well, that's not completely precise – I can theoretically comprehend your pain, but I guess that's a little different, isn't it? >.<)

Most of them seem pretty yellow to me, too, though!

  9. That was the point ;) I tried to pick out foundations that would be similarish, so that people could use them as reference – ie. "I'm a MAC NC40, and Marcelle's light/med BB is about the same as NW25, so I should go with the med/dark shade instead."

Most of these actually don't match me (save for Ivory Beige, which is pretty close, though maybe a tiny bit light) – getting colour-matched in-store is such a joke! I've been matched to everything from a MUFE #38 to a MAC NC25 >.<

  10. Your swatches are lovely but the only way to know for certain is to put this all over my face! Eagerly haunting the Marcelle counters. :)

  12. I guess I was one of the people who picked up the 100% Pure TM after your review, and I have to say I just CANNOT wait until this thing runs out. It oxidizes on me so much, I'm orange! Plus, the texture really isn't the best, especially on my oily skin. Now I want to try that Marcelle BB!
My recent post New Year's Empties!

  13. Wahh! I'm sorry, Rocaille :( Their shade range is so deceiving – Crème is so much darker (esp. after oxidation) in real life than it is on their model.

I think the Marcelle BB would be darker than your skintone, too, but probably not in the same orange kind of way – more like a subtle bronzer than an oxidized foundation. Try in-store if you ever end up in Canada! ;)

  14. Better than 100% Pure's TM you say?? Eeeee going to save my nickels & dimes for Marcelle's BB cream instead then!

  15. Much! If your skin can deal with 'cones, that is ;)

  16. [...] Light to Medium is darker than my own skintone, and yet, it’s completely seamless: my face still matches my neck, but I’d feel completely comfortable wearing this and nothing else as a base product – as long as I’m not in the middle of breakout, that is! Check back tomorrow for shade comparison swatches. Update: check out comparison swatches (MAC, 100% Pure, other Marcelle foundations) here! [...]

I'm starting to feel like you really aren't recognizing 'cones. The Marcelle BB cream is full of them.

  28. I'm fully aware of that, as I'm sure I've noted in the review! This post is tagged as silicone free because it also provides swatch comparisons for the 100% Pure tinted moisturizer, which is indeed cone free.
