Fair is, well, just “fair”

Everyday Minerals Start to Finish in Fair was pretty darn disappointing. Which is pretty major, for me, as I haven’t met an EDM product before this that I’ve disliked!

Why it kinda pissed me off: Firstly, there are three tiny holes to get the product out of that fairly large jar. Three! It takes *forever* and once you have gotten out some powder, it sits in an awkward heap. But that’s not the worst part, not hardly.

What I was hoping for was a sheer, smooth powder, and this didn’t deliver. The coverage seemed too heavy for a setting powder, washing me out and hiding the gorgeous shade of my blusher. And in terms of finish, it just felt like plain ‘ol mineral foundation – you know how some setting powders give that oh-so-smooth finish? This one didn’t.

The verdict? Don’t bother with it. Sure, the price is great, but there are better ones for the price. I have some CS silica powder coming in the mail, so I’ll let you know how that goes. For now, I’m sticking with my Fyrinnae Mineral Finish in Clear – that one actually appears clear, and gives a smooth finish.

Not as smooth as Estee Lauder’s Lucidity, but for the price, Fyrinnae has my vote for now.

Having something thicker would work for my skin. I find Bare Escentuals to be a bit too translucent (you may like B.E.)

That sucks! Maybe EM just doesn't do finishing powders well. I have two EM finishing powders, Sunlight and Silk Dust and they're too heavy too. They leave a slight white cast on me. Silk Dust isn't anything like silk unfortunately. I still prefer Silk Naturals' finishing powder over EM's.If you want a smooth finish and aren't allergic to silica you could try the Coastal Scents silica powder. Some bloggers have declared it to be a dupe of MUFE HD powder.

It's too bad it didn't work out for you. I have a sample of EDM Finishing Dust in the package I'm waiting for; hope that fairs better than this.

  4. FB: I think at the price of BE, I'd just go for Lucidity :P Thanks for the rec, though!! My silica powder finally arrived, and if that doesn't work out I might just have to check out the BE one!

  5. blu: Already done, lol!! It got here on Friday afternoon and I don't wear MU on the weekends if I'm just at home, so I'll get to try it on Monday! It has the strangest consistency, though – I was moving some into a different container and that stuff does NOT move like minerals. Hard to explain, but any of you that have tried it will know what I mean!

  6. Arianne: Oh, I hope the Finishing Dust is better! At least its just a sample – I would hate to have a large size of EDM powder that didn't agree with me!

  7. I have never tried the start to finish powder but I do have a big jar of the Sunlight Finishing dust, which seems to be OK, nothing spectacular really. It does leave a slight tint though, but I actually prefer tinted powders over clear ones. I also have a small jar of the Pure Luxe Silica powder which is basically 100% pure silica. I agree, it has the strangest consistency! Sooo weird and kind of creepy, but I find that it's not nearly as finely milled as the MUFE one and feels almost scratchy. I wonder how the CS one compares?

  8. Audrie: I know!!! So crazy x.x The CS one is wonderful so far! I haven't tried the MUFE (will check that out the next time I hit Sephora) but it's not scratchy at all – just miles and miles of clear smoothness!
