What is it with makeup companies and the name "Pink Lemonade"?!

Everyday Minerals stick gloss/balm in Pink Lemonade (which was very recently repackaged.) It’s nice enough, but had that annoying waxy scent that some lip products do… so, of course, it was quickly dropped into my swap box and never thought of again.
Some products are nice enough that I get over my insane hatred of waxy lipstick smells. This one was not. It was just kind of boring. (You know, in that college-boy kind of way. He’s nice, you’d bring him home, but HELL you are not planning a future with him.)

Relabelling

Just few quick photos! This is from back when I pressed my Swimming Pool into an empty MAC blot powder compact — I took the label from the EM jar and moved it to the compact!
First, I covered the MAC label in white-out. Then, after a half-assed attempt to take off the EM label without harming it, I put that one on top of the white-out (after it dried!) Smooth it out, and cover with clear polish if you’d like (it’ll help hold it down).

Fair is, well, just “fair”

Everyday Minerals Start to Finish in Fair was pretty darn disappointing. Which is pretty major, for me, as I haven’t met an EDM product before this that I’ve disliked!

Why it kinda pissed me off: Firstly, there are three tiny holes to get the product out of that fairly large jar. Three! It takes *forever* and once you have gotten out some powder, it sits in an awkward heap. But that’s not the worst part, not hardly.

What I was hoping for was a sheer, smooth powder, and this didn’t deliver. The coverage seemed too heavy for a setting powder, washing me out and hiding the gorgeous shade of my blusher. And in terms of finish, it just felt like plain ‘ol mineral foundation – you know how some setting powders give that oh-so-smooth finish? This one didn’t.

The verdict? Don’t bother with it. Sure, the price is great, but there are better ones for the price. I have some CS silica powder coming in the mail, so I’ll let you know how that goes. For now, I’m sticking with my Fyrinnae Mineral Finish in Clear – that one actually appears clear, and gives a smooth finish.

Not as smooth as Estee Lauder’s Lucidity, but for the price, Fyrinnae has my vote for now.

Sunday Brunch blush. Do not like! This blush is pretty damn orange, and wasn’t flattering on either myself (NC15/20) or my mum (no idea, but she’s medium toned and very warm)

The rest of mum’s samples.

Mine! Swimming pool, for pressing, and Start to Finish as part of my powder hunt.

First two: free samples.
Third: sample-sized.
Fourth: mini-sized.
It’s nice to see that even though they use the same containers, you get the amount of product that you pay for!

Keeping Matte: Tried and True

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

So FB commented yesterday on my sunscreen post that it made her face greasy – and it got me thinking. Now that it’s summer, a lot of us will need a little extra help to stay grease-free – so, I wanted to help out a bit. As usual, the solutions that I will super-endorse are all fairly cheap!!

Starting with this post, there are three matte posts scheduled to go up today! The next one up is: Other Alternatives.Tried and true

  • Try keeping a pack of blotting tissue at hand – my favourite (and the only brand I’ve ever used!) is Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets. They’re the drugstore-cheap, and work well!
  • Apply mineral makeup where you get greasy – semi-matte Everyday Minerals foundation keeps my face dry all day long, without looking cake-like.

See you at ten for the next instalment!
