Green contacts & Film Noir lips | 2016’s holiday makeup look

Ever since getting glasses, I feel like I’ve fallen into a makeup rut – but like, really good makeup rut. The sharp lines and burgundy tint to my frames have pushed me into wearing eyeshadow again, with winged liner and darker lips.

I love this kind of makeup look because it’s so easy to wear (and so hard to mess up). It’s great for holiday parties, sure, but it also blends right in on a date night. It’s pretty but it’s not super-holidays, you know?

    Main products used

A loooot of different products went into this particular makeup look, but there were two main ones that really made the difference. For starters, the obvious one: my new Solotica Natural Colors Contact Lenses in Mel/Honey ($94.99 USD). If you had asked me a year ago, I would have told you that I would never wear coloured contact lenses – but despite the slight discomfort (these are actually way more comfortable than I thought they would be), I totally caved.

I still totally recommend seeing your optometrist if you intend to wear coloured contacts everyday, but I kind of love how easily these change up a makeup look. I have always wanted green eyes, and Mel is a mesmerizing yellow-green that works well with brown eyes. You still get that “oh shit that person is maybe half-wolf” look that coloured contacts give you, but they don’t look SO bold that they’re unsettling.

And like, hey. I’d do me in coloured contacts, even if they make everything vaguely blurry.

The other product that really made this look was the Charlotte Tilbury Film Noir Nights Makeup Kit ($58 CAD), which contains a Matte Revolution Lipstick in Opium Noir (new) and Charlotte’s Rock’n’Kohl Eyeliner in Bedroom Black in an LED-lit “vanity” makeup box.

But, as much as I love the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution line–and I really doOpium Noir does not live up to the rest of the line. It applies rather patchily, and it’s just not an exciting shade. On my complexion, it’s a standard “holiday red” that doesn’t even come close to the dark brown-red featured on their site.

That being said, I LOVED Bedroom Black ($32 CAD), which wore on me for a solid 11 hours with no smudging. It’s inky, creamy, and super-intense, and so waterproof that it’s near-impossible to remove.
