The product: YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in no. 12 Corail Incandescent

There are a few products that really scream summer! to me, and Corail Incandescent (Coral Incandescent, depending on the seller/location) is one of them. It’s glossy, fruity, and coral, and there are few things more summery than that!

The formula: The Rouge Volupté Shine formula feels almost exactly like the YSL Volupté Sheer Candy formula, which is a feat in and of itself — the Sheer Candy balms are essentially clear lip balms, while the Volupté Shines pack quite a pigment punch. Both are lightweight and mango-scented (I get more of a fruit punch impression), and both apply really smoothly with YSL’s “melting formula,” which holds up to the heat but glides weightlessly onto the lips.

If you have dry lips and struggle to comfortably wear bold colours, note that this formula is lightly hydrating and very forgiving.

The shade: The Rouge Volupté Shine lipsticks are a great way to wear a glossy coat of intense colour, and this one is no exception. Corail Incancescent is vibrant and punchy, and can be worn sheerly for that Korean/popsicle-stained look or full-on for extra hydration and full opacity.

I’d describe Corail Incandescent as almost a fluorescent coral; as orange blended with fuchsia-pink rather than orange blended with red. It’s extremely bright, but wearable even if you’re cool-toned. (I usually struggle with corals, but I can pull this one off without any effort!)

The verdict?

I love this lipstick like I love all YSL lipsticks: carefully, but with gusto. The Rouge Volupté Shine range is just as fruity and smooth as the Volupté Sheer Candy lip balms that I love so much, but the Shines come with the added bonus of lightly hydrating, full intensity colour.

$39 CAD is quite a price tag to swallow, but these lipsticks are fantastic: they smell delicious, apply and wear gorgeously, and come in just the most divine packaging. I would absolutely recommend the range!

Availability: $36 USD/$39 CAD

    • Um, you VERY MUCH DO. I left this one at home today and I'm already regretting it!

  • I love the Sheer Candy formula, but sometimes I do wish they were a little more pigmented, so this seems like the perfect lip product for the days I want a little bit more colour pay off…if only I had ALL the money!

    • It definitely is! These are considerably more pigmented than the Sheer Candy balms, though — I would say these are medium-full coverage, while the balms are clear to sheer.

But they do feel very similar, and I think you'll really like these if you like the Sheer Candy formula! The pigmentation might surprise you, though ;)

Great swatches! In the promo the color doesn't look like a coral, isn't it? This is why we all need to swatch and try lipsticks. :D :D :D :D How gorgeous is that packaging by the way?

    • The promo is for the whole range, actually — I think she's probably wearing a fuchsia shade there! This one is much more of a coral, I promise. (But actually much more pink thank you'd expect.)

      • JustADD

A-ha! I thought this to be exactly the same shade, I'm sorry… but it's very beautiful by the way

  • i feel like ysl do corals SO WELL. i want a coral in /all/ of their formulas lol. the glossy stain in #7 is on my hit list next.
My recent post Force Mechanics for Lashes

    • Right??? Their glossy stains are pretty much the only corals/oranges/peaches that I can pull off easily. Other corals usually leave me looking kind of sallow, but these ones — never!

  • Lys

I love this lipstick! The colour is so pretty, and like you said it's great that the lipstick's very pigmented but also hydrating and comfortable on the lips like a lip balm.

Oh! This shade!! Is it as slippery as the Sheer Candy Balms? I find those too slippery >_<

    • Ahh, I meant to compare these one after the other before leaving, but I totally forgot to >.< I want to say yes, slippery, but no, not *quite* as slippery — the colour in these ones seems to settle better once it sets (so, a couple minutes into wear but not immediately/while swatching), if that makes sense!

  • This is such a pretty colour! It's a bit out of my price range but gah YSL = ♥
