Silicone-free primer list (+ paraben-free)

Today’s list of silicone-free makeup primers is one that came requested by a few of our readers — and, unlike the last instalment of silicone-free cream foundations, it’s sorted by (US) price ascending rather than brand. If you prefer one over the other, please let me know — I can’t decide!

More of these primers were paraben-free than not, so primers with parabens listed in their ingredients lists are denoted with a hyphen (-). If you are extremely sensitive to parabens, however, please check the packaging or contact the manufacturer to double-check each product’s status before buying!

I have been using Beauty Flash Balm as a moituriser in winters for a couple of years and really like the glow I get! I have my eyes on the Jouer and Dior ones.. but really I don't wear so much make up so regularly as to "invest" in primers! They are pretty expensive!
My recent post Too Pretty To Use

    • They can definitely get up there in price! I was so surprised that Beauty Flash Balm is 'cone-free — I've heard raves about it for years, but always assumed that it was full of silicones!

  • Thanks for making this list!

Thanks for this list! It's a great reference.

My recent post FOTD #8: 'Cause Sometimes We Want Vengeance

    • Hah! Nope, noooo thank you. Though I do really want to try a few of these! (Beauty Flash Balm, mainly. I've already tried most of the Korres ones, and — eh. I was pretty underwhelmed.)

  • Such a great list! I've been wanting to try a powder primer, and now I can't take my mind off the Alima Pure one!

    • If you give it a try, make sure to come back and let us know how it goes! I'm sure you and I aren't the only ones wondering about it ;)

Oh this is great! Thanks, Rae! I have used the Cover FX one in the past and I really liked it! I guess it's time for a re-visit! ;D I really want to try the Jouer Anti-Ageing one, too. I love the packaging. Haha.

    • You're welcome, Jaa! :D

(I want to try those Jouer ones, too. Such a perfect example of how to win at packaging!)

I feel like I need to do some sort of primer showdown at some point. If nothing else, science demands it! I don't usually use primer, but somehow I've managed to amass large samples of:

    UD B6 vitamin prep spray
    Laura Mercier primer
    Clinique Universal primer
    YSL primer
    Smashbox primer

This is a lot of primers for a girl who doesn't wear them… and I think I have a mix of siliconey ones and non-siliconey ones (thanks to your list here!). I don't think I'm sensitive to silicones, I don't think. I didn't realise paraben sensitivity was a widespread thing either!

My recent post Answer Me These Questions Three! – A Suitably Geeky Makeup Poll #3

    • That's a ton, girl! I don't wear primer either (it doesn't do much for my dry skin), but I'm pretty sure I only have one or two lying around.

I'm not sure how many people are sensitive to parabens, but I know a couple! They're far outnumbered by those who are sensitive to silicones, though — but that might just be a sample bias. Maybe all the 'cone-sensitive folks out there have gravitated toward theNotice, you know?

i tried an old primer from Korres and loved it but I haven't tried this newer one. I used the Becca original primer they first came out with, it was great and it had spf too but it's been discontinued! Next time I'm at Sephora I'll have to try to snag some samples!
My recent post GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment Review

    • Aww, bummer! I'd love to hear how the new Becca primer compares to the original, if you end up giving it a try :)

  • Thank you very much, Mom! I have used the FX also cover last year, and I really enjoyed it!
