New 29/01/12

I’m sorry; I know we just did one of these last week (and the one before that, too, if I’m not mistaken), but there’s just so much stuff coming out right now!

Things are picking up out of the post-Christmas slump, and everyone seems to be gearing up for Spring – so here are some of the more exciting just-launched products.

Lashes, lids, lips, and cheeks

Skincare and fragrance

(Those adorable little petites, my heart! I’ve recently discovered a soft spot for purse sprays – more on that in Feb.)

I'm the most excited about Buxom blushes and Korres Pomegranate mattifying treatment! The Stila blush has such an adorable pattern that I think I will never want to mess up even if I get it!

  • I saw those mini Tarte bronzer + blush sets at Ulta and thought they were adorable, but successfully convinced myself that adorable was not a good reason to buy stuff I don't really need :P So proud!

Also, did you see Tracy's post on the Lancome Rouge in Love lipstick? 1. The lipstick she chose is gorgeous, 2. Tracy is hilarious. HILARIOUS.

Hoping to stumble upon a Tarte mini blush/bronzer set in Canada, but it's unlikely. /sigh You US girls get all the good stuff! :P

Rae, do you use NYX "Milk" Jumbo Eye Pencil as a cream base for your eyeshadows? If not/yet, how else do you use it? I got one but I'm kind of a loss with what to do with it. Maybe there are too many possibilities. I like that it's matte, so I can use it to tone down overly shimmery powder eyeshadows. (I think.)

    • Sometimes I think you're a figment of my imagination, created to leave completely irrelevant (but makeup-related) comments on recent posts (and, sometimes, completely relevant comments on super-old posts) in order to make my day. :D

(I love answering questions, but I feel like no one ever leaves them anymore!)

So, the answer: it's white, so it makes a good base to help shadows "pop." Which, okay, not typically an issue for my ghastly-pale skin, but it does make a difference (& an even bigger one on darker skintones!) Plus, it has a stickier texture than bare skin, so it works as a primer – I can definitely tell where I do & don't have Milk under my shadows, if I'm swatching or something.

Worth noting, though – I only use it for blog looks, because my super-oily lids aren't usually thrilled with it :(

      • Oh! Also, as a P.S.: makes a good white liner in a pinch, if it's just for a blog look, and can help create very theatrical white lashes.

& as for the "pop," I realized that might not be clear enough (because my brain is a pile of mush today, sorry.) Basically: colours come through the truest on a white canvas, right? But skin's not white. So, skin + white primer = closer to white canvas, –> colour of product applied on top comes through more clearly/brightly :)

Sorry for intruding, but I noticed some people use the Nyx Milk pencil as an inner corner and brow highlight. I've never tried it though, so I don't know if it works for everyone or not.

OHMYGAWSH. I just LOVE new releases! Mann, I remember when I wasn't into cosmetics, hair products, & fragrances, so all I had to worry about was saving money for clothing. It's so hard having to split into even more categories! ><
