Can’t live without… pearly off-white eyeshadows

If there’s one product I can’t live without, it’s a pearly eyeshadow.

Whether it’s the fall and I’m pairing it with a chocolate crease colour and a berry gloss, or the winter and I’m wearing it with winged black liner and red lipstick, or the spring and I’m throwing it on with soft brown eyeliner and a coral stain, it’s one of those products that I think is absolutely mandatory, no matter your skintone.

Swatched L-R: GOSH Eye Shadow Duet in Golden/Chocolate (golden side only), Lancome Crème Lustré, Lancome Moonstruck, Lancome Honeymoon, Dior Holiday ’09 (lightest shade only), Annabelle Creme Caramel trio (lightest shade only), MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl.

I’m usually partial to almost-white pearls with creamy champagne shimmer, but there’s just such a phenomenal range of possibilities: cool whites with almost-blue reflects, ivory bases with melon-y shimmer, pinks that flash peach… and don’t even get me started on their uses! In a pinch, you can use your pearly highlighters on your cheekbones, your cupid’s bow, the centre of your lower lip – they’re that versatile.

L-R: GOSH Golden/Chocolate; Lancome Crème Lustré, Moonstruck, Honeymoon; Dior Holiday ’09; Annabelle Creme Caramel; MAC CCB in Pearl.

Liberal curves layer applied tos how off undertones.

Anyhow, the swatches in this post are a few of my go-to off-whites. I took the photos quite a while back, and some of my (new) favourites are missing, but I think we have enough swatched here to show off the range of possibilities ;)

L-R: GOSH Golden/Chocolate (disc; try Coffee/Cream); Lancome Crème Lustré, Moonstruck, Honeymoon; Dior Holiday ’09 (LE; try Incognito or Earth Reflection); Annabelle Creme Caramel; MAC CCB in Pearl.

What are your favourite shimmery off-whites?

  • Laura Mercier Stellar. It's a silvered beige, with just enough of a peach undertone to marry it to the skin; great on cooler complexions. Though the shimmer is complex (white silver/soft gold/green), a requisite of a good highlighter, it's so fine it registers as a subtle luminosity rather than a shimmer. I dislike harsh frosts, I'm not sure why but they don't flatter.

    • Ooh, that sounds absolutely breathtaking! & I completely agree re: frosts; while I love a fine shimmer, sometimes it can get overdone.

  • I have MAC's Pearl, but I'm not huge into off whites (or whites, really). Lots of girls use them to highlight, but I feel like on me that gives me instant hoochie eye, or something. Well, I exaggerate bit.

By any chance, do you have an excess of taupes you could post about? I've been in love with the color taupe, lately.

    • Ha! Okay, point taken :P It blends out pretty well, though; I guess that's what I'd recommend? (Try a fluffy brush, like a 217 or a 224, just in the inner corner.)

I really haven't many posts, but I'll see if I can! I'd totally recommend the following if you're currently into taupes, though: {Temptalia}, {Of Faces and Fingers}, and {The Beauty Look Book}.

      • Thanks for the linkage. TAUPES! *drool*

And yes, it does blend out fairly well, but I find a such a pale highlight is just too much for me most of the time. I prefer to use a gold shadow, or concealer in NC35 (or skip highlighting–I do that a lot xD).

  • These are the kinds of small, subtle things that I never used to appreciate before I started blogging. The way all the colors are different and beautiful. Thanks for this!

Beautiful! I love my Marcelle minerals e/s in Opal. Wear it all the time.

  • Hmm…I don't collect a lot of the same color – I usually find one or two that work and stick with 'em. I think my favorite pearly off-white is one that came in the Stila pearl palette – creamy, pearly white with just a hint of gold undertones. Very pretty.

And I think this is a fun type of post – more please! :D

    • Haha, I end up with… a lot of similar colours. I don't understand! I just don't know how it happens!

Glad you liked the post xx (Similar one here!)

  • My favourite highlighter is BUrberry Trench eyeshadow. It just makes a natural highlight and blends everything together nicely. That Lancome Creme Lustre has caught my eye-really pretty!

  • I love pearly whites for an inner corner highlight, and more obnoxious whites (like from the Maybelline Eye Studio quads….it's like white with silver glitter!) for a lid colour. There's a really gorgeous shade in the Cargo Los Angeles quad which is a pretty good dupe for NARS Albatross too.
