Product: Clean and Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets

The Rundown: Though they’re not the most glamorous, they’re a) cheap, and b) easily accessible! You can pick ‘em up at any drugstore – I always check to see if they’re on sale, and stock up when they are. These ones are the original format, but they come in a few snazzy scents now, too.

A clean sheet… boring much?

Effectiveness: Unlike some tissues, these are soft and filmy - meaning that when you pull it across your face, you not only pick up all the oil, you also don’t smear your makeup! Once the oil is in the tissue, it turns a dark, translucent blue, so you know when a sheet is used up. And it seems to be “trapped”: it’s not going to come off that sheet, don’t worry! I use one of these a week, with touchups once a day at lunch, but someone with oilier skin (like my sister) can go through two or three of these a day.

Used – you can see where it’s captured oil!

And up to the light, to show its translucence.

The verdict? Buy it if you’re looking for a great blotting tissue! It definitely does what it’s supposed to, and it does so very well. I’d like to try out some others, but I keep forgetting to grab some when I go to Sephora! Those that I have tried (not many) have been more expensive and less effective, though.

I agree. This is still the best (and most satisfying) oil blotting sheets out there. Maybe because it starts out blue and opaque, then becomes translucent when oil hits it.I believe there is a Life Brand one, which is pretty much the same stuff.

I love the Clean and Clear sheets – as far as I can tell, the MAC ones are exactly the same & I actually don't like the Boscia ones. I think they do the same thing… but they're just not as sturdy & I don't think they soak up as much oil. =/

  3. Arianne: I know!! Fun ^^ I personally have not tried the store-brand ones, but my sister has (they were purple, and as you know, we're total purple whores.) And I mean, they were fine… but just not as great =(

  4. Catherine: I'm always surprised when drugstore buys kick the asses of high end ones – and these sheets seem to do nothing but that! I just wish they were… you know… prettier :P

I've tried these, but they didn't work as well for me. I only use them sparingly, and on my nose(which is the only thing that gets oily, lol. I prefer Boscia's papers. AND, if you do a price comparison between Boscia's papers & C&C's, C&C's are actually more expensive! lol, I'm not really a big fan of C&C, no clue why.

  6. I know this is an old post, but I -had- to comment. The Sephora blotting sheets are crap – they're the paper kind. The packaging comes with a sticker to help grab a sheet, but because the sheet is so thin, it ends up tearing when you remove it from the sticker. They're also pretty tiny… I grab a couple testers to use if I'm at a Sephora store, but I wouldn't purchase them.Rexall has its own house-brand blotting sheets, similar to Sephora's. These come in a reusable plastic sleeve, in a pack of 150. They're much larger and a bit studier than the Sephora ones. This comes with no sticky grabber, so you'll have to grab each sheet by hand. They're not great, but they are super cheap. My fave blotting sheet comes from Pacific Mall — You know that small beauty store with all the nail polishes by one of the entrance? Get yourself in there and grab some Gatsy blotting sheets. They're made of the same material as the C&C ones, only bigger. They have a regular strength (blue) and super strength (black), both of which work really well. Both come in a pack of 75 for $6CAD with a sticky grabber. I repurchase these year after year – a single pack or two will last me the summer.

Hi Wendy! Umm. Yah. I have no idea what you're talking about. Pacific Mall is in… Vancouver? I think?Either way, I'll keep my eye out for Gatsy sheets! Perhaps I'll find them in my area — I'm not very oily, but my sister is, so I'm sure she'd love the black ones! Thanks for the heads-up :)
