What are you removing?

What it is: The Body Shop’s Camomile Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover, a liquid non-waterproof makeup remover. $14.50 for 250ml – what can I say, I had a gift card!

Ingredients: Water, Cyclomethicone, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Coco-Glucoside, Carbomer, Algae Extract, Benzyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Chlorphenesin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Propylparaben. The good: Well, I support the Body Shop. I love how they support community trade (fair trade for a number of their ingredients) and how their US/Canadian prices are the same on the majority of their products. I love that this product, in particular, doesn’t have a putrid smell, and I love how it doesn’t cloud my eyes if I do get some in there, the way some oil-based removers will. It does sting, but then again, even water stings my eyes. It’s pretty good at removing non-waterproof makeup, but doesn’t do much for the waterproof ones.

The bad: Because this is alcohol-based and I have dry, sensitive skin, if I don’t rinse promptly after using, it does sting my skin. It’s a little on the pricey side for what it does do, and I think that other removers would be more cost-effective. I also don’t like how many parabens are in this product – it doesn’t matter much to me personally, but it means I could never use this on someone like my sister.

The verdict: I’d pass on this. I usually just end up using it to remover swatches (which it IS good at!) However, if you don’t wear waterproof makeup, and you have oily skin, this might not be so bad! I have a cousin who loves this stuff, as she fits the aformentioned two categories. I believe she’s actually on her second bottle, now!
